- Adjust the spice levels: You can use more or less crushed red pepper to adjust the spice level of your seasoning for beef.
- Adjust the sweetness: Use more or less brown sugar to make the steak seasoning a little sweeter or less sweet if you prefer.
- Add more garlic: If you really love garlic , adjust to use more garlic powder for an extra garlicky flavor.
Tips For The Perfect Spice Blend
- This beef seasoning will stay fresh in a sealed container at room temperature for up to 6 months. I often make a double or triple batch so that I always have some on hand.
- Its definitely worth seeking out smoked paprika for this recipe. The smoked version adds a ton of flavor and is readily available in the spice aisle of most grocery stores.
- This rub can be used on other types of meat such as ribs, chicken, salmon, or other cuts of beef such as brisket.
- I recommend using freshly ground black pepper for maximum flavor.

How To Make Steak Seasoning

- 2 tablespoons Kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves

- 1 teaspoon chili powder
Combine all ingredients well. Brush olive oil all over the steak, then sprinkle the blend on both sides to season steak.
An even easier way to make steak seasoning isto not make it at all! Instead, grab some Chicago Steak Seasoning the next time youre placing your online order from Chicago Steak Company. It includes salt, garlic, paprika, and a blend of other spices to make a perfectly seasoned steak, every single time.
Gringos Chupacabra Steak Seasoning

This 2 Gringros Chupacaraba Steak Seasoning is perfect in just about every way and is manufactured in San Antonio, Texas. It’s a savory blend of black pepper, garlic, and spices. Again, it fairs lower on the list thanks to a few additives that do keep the product shelf-stable, making it maybe not as clean as we’d like, but if you don’t mind those types of additives, then this may be for you.
Just don’t get confused like one reviewer on Amazon did: The “2” refers to the amount of Gringos in the title, not the number of seasonings you get with an order. Fans of the product compliment its versatility using it on salmon, ribs, pork chops, chicken, even a light sprinkling over salad and because it doesn’t dry even the cheap cuts of meat out . Perhaps the best part of the Chupacabra Steak Seasoning are the large pieces of cracked pepper.

What Spices Go Best With Steak
Theres really just one main thing you need to season steak: good old reliable kosher salt! Dont be tempted to use table saltits very fine and will dissolve too quickly once it hits the meat. You can add other spices too , or you can you can use seasoned salt for extra flavor. But if you want to keep it simple, just go with kosher salt. Add a little freshly ground pepper or cayenne, if you like.

Jacobsen Salt Co Steak Seasoning
You might recognize Jacobsen Salt Co. for its artisanal salt that is harvested from Netarts Bay on the Oregon Coast . It only made sense that it’s taken that beloved sea salt and folded it into other seasonings, like taco, ramen, and, most importantly for us, steak seasoning.
While the Jacobsen Co. Steak Seasoning may not have thousands of reviews yet, the ones it does have are positive. The steak seasoning features Jacobsen Salt Co.’s sea salt mixed with minced garlic, coriander seed, paprika, fennel seed, rosemary, thyme, parsley, and red pepper flakes. One reviewer on noted that the salt’s crystalline quality helps tenderize your meat and bring out subtle flavors, all further enhanced by the herbs and spices. If you’re looking for an artisanal steak rub and willing to spend a bit more per volume, Jacobsen Salt Co.’s Steak Seasoning is a luxurious experience.

Don’t Use Old Herbs And Spices
Old herbs and spices mean less flavor. And for this spice blend, we definitely want newer dried herbs and spices!
Dried spices and herbs have a shelf life of about two years when properly stored, depending on the spice or herb. To test potency, crumble some of the herb or spice into the palm of your hand with your fingers. If you can barely smell it or its dusty smelling, its time to get some new stuff!
Pro tip: Use an airtight glass jar to mix the ingredients together and youll save on cleanup!
Dry Rub Vs Marinade Which Is Better
It really comes down to what you are trying to do and what you are using your steak for. I like using steak marinade when I need the steak to be tenderized or if I am slicing the steak before cooking For everything else, I always use a dry rub. I like having a flavorful, seared, crust on my steak. Heres a little breakdown for you to help you decide which way to go:

When Should You Season Steak
If youre using an open flame grill for cooking, wait until 5 minutes before finishing the steak because salting too early will cause the steak to dry out while cooking.
But even with this short of a gap between salting and cooking, you can as well wait until 15 minutes before cooking for optimum results.
The reason you shouldnt salt steak too soon is that the heat from the fire will start dissolving some of the salt into the surface area of the meat. And depending on the type of steak, youll probably end up with a bland steak instead of a juicy one.
So always remember the longer you leave your steak out, the better it will turn out.

How To Properly Season And Sear A Steak
This step is crucial to ensuring you develop a great crust when searing your steak.
Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt is the best, in my opinion, because of the size of the salt granules. It allows you to season your steak appropriately without fear of it becoming too salty.
Always use freshly cracked pepper to coax the most flavor from your peppercorns.
Add steak to preheated skillet and allow to cook, undisturbed, for about three to four minutes before flipping.
After about three to four minutes, the steak should be deeply caramelized and ready to flip. Cook for an additional two minutes on the other side for medium-rare. Adjust cook times for desired doneness and thickness of the steak.
Once the steak has been seared on both sides, add a few tablespoons of unsalted butter and flavorings of your choice.
Once the butter has melted, baste steak with butter and seasonings for about a minute. This technique is done at the end of cooking to prevent the butter from burning. If added too early on in the searing process, the milk solids in the butter will burn, resulting in a bitter-tasting steak.
Remove steak from the skillet and allow to rest on your cutting board. Loosely tent your steak with foil while resting to keep it warm.
Slice steak against the grain and serve with your favorite sides. Mashed potatoes, perhaps?
Turning Your Steak Too Often
When cooking your steak in a pan, you might be tempted to repeatedly flip it over again and again in order to check on how it’s cooking. However, chefs warn that you don’t want to overdo it on the flipping, as this can actually make it more difficult to determine the extent to which your steak has been cooked.
“One method to improve your chances of cooking a delicious steak at home is trying to turn the steak only once,” says Hansen. “By constantly turning, it’s hard to gauge the doneness and you risk having it overcooked or unevenly cooked.”

Do You Marinate The Steak Overnight
On average, I would recommend marinating the steaks for no more than two hours.
The reason is that the marinade does not get past the upper layers of the meat.
So marinating the steaks overnight is unnecessary, especially if you are using ribeye steaks or other relatively more tender cuts.
Marinating steaks overnight can be applicable if you use tougher cuts such as skirt steaks.
How To Season Steak
Seasoning the steak is the simple part! While there are many seasonings and marinades out there, its all about letting it rest and really get soaked or rubbed into the steak.
Some people only add on for a couple of minutes before cooking, while some recipes call for 24 hours or more.
One thing is certain. The longer you leave the spice blend on, the more flavorful it will be.

What Is The Best Way To Tenderize A Ribeye Steak

Ribeye steaks are not usually too tough, but there are instances where it can get too hard that the rub does not get into the meat. There is a simple solution to this problem.
You can use a meat tenderizer to make the ribeye softer but the safest way to do this, in my opinion, is to simply rub a tablespoon of kosher salt on each side of the steak.
Use your hands to press the salt into the meat to break down the meats connective tissues and fibers. This will help the ribeye steak become more tender when cooking.

We understand how important it is to get the perfect steak. But sometimes, there are things we can do to ensure that our steaks turn out just right:
- Always buy fresh steak to ensure deserving results.
- After buying steak, place it in a bowl of cold water.
- When possible, let cooked steak rest for a maximum of 15 minutes before cutting into portions.
- Use only room temperature steak and avoid using heat-treated steak at restaurants.

What Is The Best Cut Of Beef For Tacos
A Skirt Steak is one of the most common ingredients for fajitas and tacos, with great reason. They offer a unique, beefy flavor, are fairly affordable, and are available outside of grocery stores. The unique flavor, ease of cooking, delicious leanness, and perfect match for good marinades also make them an excellent marinade ingredient.
Bolner’s Fiesta Uncle Chris’ Gourmet Steak Seasoning
The reviews are in, and people are hooked . Why then, does it rank so low? Not because it isn’t delicious, because it certainly is: This rub is bold and delicious, a blend of onion, garlic, salt, and pepper, and even some lemon zest to add a bit of zing to your steak.
One customer compares it to McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning, which ranks higher on this list, and finds that Bolner’s is just as good . For us, Bolner’s steak seasoning loses out when it comes to the ingredient list. When comparing it to a product like Kinders Buttery Steakhouse, which uses real butter, Uncle Chris’ Gourmet Steak Seasoning uses butter flavor made with corn starch and a bunch of other weird things. So it’s up to personal taste, and if you don’t mind the slight artificial flavors, then go for it.
