CORNING, N.Y. – A new sports bar on Cornings north side invites locals to enjoy some one-of-a-kind wings.

Bridges Bar & Grill opened to residents on Bridge Street on January 10th, the spot formerly occupied by Capm Morgans. With NFL Playoffs in full swing, co-owner Becki Messner hopes the new venue will establish their spot in the community.

It feels pretty neat to be part of the community, Messner said. Can’t wait to see what it’s going to bring to the community. We had a lot of good feedback so far so we’re pretty excited.

Bridges says one thing that separates them from other sports bar-style restaurants, is the unusual selection of wings on the menu. Messner shares how some of her unique flavored wings have become fan favorites.

We have peanut butter and grape jelly wings and peanut butter and strawberry jelly wings, which are a big hit, Messner said. You either like it or you don’t, but everyone that’s tried them has loved them.

Bridges has an array of plans slated for this year. In addition to hosting karaoke and trivia nights, Messner hopes to buy smokers the restaurant can use to expand its menu.

Hopefully by the summer, we are going to be able to do the smokers out back, Messner said. Lots of smoked brisket, pulled pork, maybe some seafood dinners.

The venue is still waiting for their liquor license to be approved by New York State. Bridges will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Restaurants generally allow its customers to enjoy food on the spot, and hence provide a dining space. While take-away counters exist in some popular restaurants, most are equipped with table-service only.

How Four Friends Built Bridges Bar

The name for Bridges Bar and Grill was born when four friends Becki and James Messner, Stephanie and Justin Clark were discussing their new business in the Messners’ garage. Bridge Street, they thought, would be the perfect location. It took two hours for the group to land on the name.

This name just clicked, Becki Messner said. We thought wed incorporate it with the bridge and Bridge Street.

With its mint green towers, the Bridge Street bridge is one of the well-known landmarks in the city connecting north and south Corning.

The Bridges Bar and Grill logo, created by Finger Lakes Sign & Design in Horseheads, outlines an ode to the bridge.

With a name, logo and vision, the four got to work creating the bar in mid-October, putting in countless hours to get the space ready for customers.

We knew we had a lot of work cut out for us when we came in, Becki Messner said. Its been a lot of long hours and a lot of labor and a lot of things to fix up.

Bridges Bar And Grill Coming To Corning’s Bridge Street At Site Of Former Cap’n Morgans

Market Street in Corning NY Jim

Bridge Street used to be a premier location in Corning with popular spots like Lando’s, The Cite and Cap’n Morgans filled to capacity most weekends. A new bar opening in 2022 could aid a new era of Bridge Street in the city.

The appropriately named Bridges Bar and Grill is opening at the site of the old Capn Morgans. The popular bar closed its doors in February 2020 after 18 years of operation.

Following the closure of several popular bars in the area, Bridge Street has lagged further behind Market Street, the crown jewel of nightlife and eateries in Corning, even with the success of Careys Brew House that opened in 2017.

Reviews For Bridges Bar & Grill

Fantastic experience. You can tell they care about their customers. They have daily specials as well as trivia and bingo on certain days. Sundays they have brunch! Food was delicious with excellent portions. Our server was attentive, very friendly and cared about our experience. Will definitely be back!

Went there for lunch with a coworker. The atmosphere was your typical neighborhood bar with some dart games. The menu was quick to order bar food with a variety of sandwiches, burgers, and wings. I had the turkey melt that was pretty good. My coworker had the special pulled pork and no complaints from him either. Service was good and never let out glasses get empty.

Great wings, $0.75 a wing Wednesday. TV’s are in okay spots around the restaurant. No alcohol at this time as they are waiting for their liquor license. The bar area looks very nice and the barrel table stands are cool even if they get in the way a little bit. Waitress has an amazing smile. Possibly 5 stars with drinks available and trying out some other things on the menu.

About Estimated Health Scores

Yelp obtains this data from Hazel Analytics, which collects public data from local government agencies. Health department practices vary widely across the country, and some do not publish a score along with their inspection findings. For these jurisdictions, Hazel Analytics collects underlying local health department data to provide an estimated score that shows how this businesss latest inspection compares to others in the local health departments jurisdiction.

Depending on how frequently a health department publishes inspection results online and how long it takes to process and send that information to us, there may be a delay before the most recent inspection is shown here. This is usually a temporary situation that will be resolved when we receive updated information.

Bar To Open On Corning’s Bridge Street

The interior of the bar will have a rustic and vintage feel. Wine barrels act as bases for tables and the tabletops were crafted by hand.

Were here every day until about 10 p.m. at night, Becki Messner said.

On the menu will be typical bar food, including hamburgers, chicken wings and sandwiches, as well as specials every night. Some staples include peanut butter and jelly wings, the hangover burger and Friday fish fry.

A recent Facebook post shows a sneak peak of a menu item, sweet potato bombs.

Bridges is also planning karaoke nights, live bands, DJs and trivia for select nights. Whether you’re in the mood to party, or want to host a family gathering in the back of the restaurant, the Bridges Bar and Grill owners hope to have something for everyone.

Adding a new bar to another part of the city complements a growing trend on Market Street.

“We are delighted to welcome a new business to our downtown, we are a dining destination and also a fast-growing craft brewing destination so additions to that offering are a very good thing,” said Coleen Fabrizi, executive director of the Corning Gaffer District.

The business could draw traffic for events like Taste of Summer, a Bridge Street summer event with live music that was canceled in 2020.

If social media engagement or passersby are any indication, Bridges Bar and Grill will have a successful stint in the city when it opens.

The restaurant is slated to open in early 2022.
