Nothing is as theatrical or redolent of old-world dining rooms than the Classic Beef Wellington, served guéridon-style
If there is one pressing matter that has dominated talk among the food-minded coterie of late, it would be: Have you tried the new Gordon Ramsay restaurant yet? Yes, it is still shiny and newly opened at Sunway Resort, the main hotel in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur. Yes, tables for dinner are notoriously impossible to get . And, yes the answer to the most pertinent query it is pricey. With inflation hitting the grocery baskets of the average Malaysian hard, it seems a little extravagant to fork out RM130 for a starter of aged steak tartare or RM290 for a slice of Beef Wellington for mains but, having experienced it personally, the quality and flavours are all present and the ambience is really rather nice.
Of course, those who have dined at the London outpost of Mr Ramsays Savoy Grill will be quick to compare prices: the two aforementioned dishes would set them back only £21 and £55 respectively. At press time, a return economy class ticket on the national carrier costs just shy of RM7,000. So, if it is a taste of the UK you are after, it is best to just bite the bullet and hand over the credit card.

The Sunway Resort dining room is also Ramsays inaugural restaurant in Malaysia and the first Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill outside of the UK. Its recent opening coincided with the extensive renovation and refurbishment of the hotel. Just a short stroll from the entrance, you cannot help but catch a glimpse of the massive black-and-white portrait of the celebrity chef almost beckoning you to enter. The front half of the restaurant is dedicated to a lounge-like setting and a gorgeous bar with floor-to-ceiling windows while the interiors house the main dining space as well as three private rooms perfect for serious business talk or sealing deals. Glittering chandeliers abound and the entire restaurant seats up to 150 guests at a time. Be sure to admire the monochrome works of familiar British icons, taken by celebrated pixmen Terry ONeill and Arthur Steel, adorning the walls. On our visit, we spotted Swinging London goddesses Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy and fans of popular culture would not fail to recognise Mick Jagger and Sean Connery.
Lest we forget we are actually in Malaysia, the culinary team has thoughtfully provided a local touch in the form of a Hibiscus Mojito , made using rum, mint, fresh lime and homemade hibiscus syrup. There is also a selection of homemade lemonades and iced teas for those who wish to keep things kosher.

Naturally, such a meal deserves something equally exciting to match, and the restaurant, to its great credit, offers an impressive wine list. Even if you do not feel like getting a bottle, the list of wines by the glass is stellar, with choices for sparkling, rosé, white and red, including a reserve Albarino from Bodega Garzon in Uruguay and fail-safe rosé Whispering Angel by Chateau dEsclans, which is owned by Sacha Lichine, hailed as the undisputed King of Rosé . If you are feeling swish, check out the Premium Pour list, which offers Chateaux Smith Haut Lafitte, Cos dEstournel and Margauxs third wine, among many others, by the glass. The other star dish to order would be the Dover Sole Grenobloise , which comes lightly anointed with caper sauce, croutons and beurre noisette. There is also a charcoal grill that serves up an array of A-list proteins, all 42-day dry-aged beef, such as Angus Rib Eye , Wagyu Tenderloin Steak and a Tomahawk steak that serves two . All grilled items come with Café de Paris butter and a side salad. You may also choose to luxe up any dish with additional seasonal black truffle shavings RM85 for about five grams.
Sadly, there was nary a sticky toffee pudding in sight when it came to dessert, although the classic Apple Tarte Tatin does not disappoint. The only grouse was the meagre serving of vanilla ice cream, although the friendly staff are more than happy to bring you another scoop or two if you ask. For memories of boarding school or summery weekends, there is also the Strawberry Trifle , a soporific melange of strawberry puree, pistachio sponge and vanilla custard.

If were being completely honest, it is quite daunting to put into words the experience reviewing a Gordon Ramsay approved menu.
When it was announced that the celebrated Michelin-starred chef was to open his first restaurant in Malaysia on June 18, the news shook ardent foodies across the country. The announcement went viral within minutes and when reservations were open, the next available dates would start from 2023.
As the first outpost outside of London, Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill Kuala Lumpur has a lot to live up to especially a standard that is upheld by the man with the trident himself Chef Gordon Ramsay. The restaurant is a culmination of Gordons British heritage with the grace and grandeur of Sunway Resort.
The interiors breathe out an air of elegance as you step in with a polished walnut hardwood flooring, lots of brass finishes and 24-karat gold leaf hand-placed ceiling to boot. Splashes of deep red and forest green reel in more British elegance, elevated with monochrome portraits of British style icons including Sir Mick Jagger, supermodel Twiggy and more. There are also private rooms for intimate sessions but an early reservation would definitely be ideal to ensure availability.

Gordon Ramsay is a British chef, restaurateur, writer, television personality and food critic. He currently owns and/or operates restaurants across Europe, North America and Asia.
Ramsay founded his first restaurant chain, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, in 1997. He has owned and operated a series of restaurants since he first became head chef of Aubergine in 1993. He owned 25% of that restaurant, where he earned his first two Michelin stars. Following the dismissal of protege from sister restaurant L’Oranger, Ramsay organised a staff walkout from both restaurants and subsequently took them to open up Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, at Royal Hospital Road, London. His self-titled restaurant went on to become his first and only three Michelin star restaurant.
Ramsay has installed a number of proteges in restaurants. Both Angela Hartnett and Jason Atherton worked at Verre before moving back to London to The Connaught and Maze respectively. Atherton left to open his own restaurant, and Hartnett purchased Murano from Ramsay in 2010. Wareing was made head chef of London based restaurant, Pétrus. It went on to win two Michelin stars, but in 2008 the two chefs fell out when Wareing kept the restaurant premises and the stars, while Ramsay received rights to the name. The restaurant was renamed , while in 2010 the new Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay was opened.

Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill To Open This Coming Saturday June 18
The highly anticipated Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill will be opening this Saturday, 18th June 2022. The entire space will be able to seat up to a total of 150 guests at a tim. The restaurant will open for dinner only from 6PM to 10.30PM, daily.
Malaysias first-ever Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill was previously open for reservations only back in February. You can book a table via email at or call +603 7492 8000. A quick call to the Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill and we found out that reservations are already open from April onwards, however it is already fully booked all the way till August!
While we can anticipate the opening to be around April, but as stated in the email no official dates are set yet. While a regular booking does not require deposit, but if RM100 deposit is required for more than one table reservation or with groups of 6 or more. Meanwhile, parties with 8 pax and above will be required to take up the Private Dining Room.
There are reportedly 3 different private rooms to choose from. Theres 8 Mayfair, 10 Soho and 12 Chelsea all with distinct themes you cant take your eyes off. One of the rooms even has its own private kitchen that shutters down after service for complete privacy!
