    Prepare The Spice Rub

The best way to get the most flavor from oven-baked ribs is to use a spice rub. I love this rub because it’s made with many common spices you probably already have in your pantry like cumin, smoked paprika, and ground coriander. When mixed with the brown sugar the flavor created is sweet and smokey with a little bit of a kick.

    How To Braise Ribs

Braising ribs is similar to boiling ribs except you are using a smaller quantity of more flavorful liquid. This is a preferred way to infuse your ribs with more flavor because the liquid in which they cook is usually a lot more concentrated than the liquid you use to boil ribs. Again, the skys the limit as far as what you can add to your braise for flavor, but many people simply slow-cook their ribs in barbecue sauce.

You can braise your ribs on the stovetop by bringing the barbecue sauce to a simmer over medium heat, adding the ribs, covering them, reducing the heat to low and cooking for a few hours. Check every hour or so for tenderness. This is an excellent opportunity to use a slow cooker, too.

Alternatively, you can braise them in the oven. The advantage of this is that in an oven, the heat is cooking the ribs from all sides, making for much more even cooking. As well, you can cook more ribs in the oven than you can on a stove top simply because you have more space. You also have the option of precooking a whole slab of ribs rather than cutting the rack down into smaller pieces, which can be necessary for stovetop cooking

You can either use a large roasting pan or even buy a disposable aluminum roasting pan to cook enough ribs for a crowd. Heres how:

  • Center your oven rack and preheat the oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • To a large roasting pan, add your ribs and toss with seasonings and braising liquid or barbecue sauce.

How To Cook Beef Ribs On A Gas Grill

To cook your beef ribs on a gas grill, follow the above steps . The only difference is youll need to add wood for a smoky flavor , and its best to sear directly over the burners. We recommend wrapping your ribs in foil about half way through the cooking process.

If you want a smokier flavor, buy some wood pellets or chips and put them in a smoke box or foil pouch to infuse your beef ribs with smoky flavor. It wont be as flavorful as using a pellet grill, but youll still get good results.

What Temperature Should You Cook Your Ribs On The Grill And For How Long

Fall-Off-The-Bone Ribs – Oven or Grill – Baby Back Bbq Ribs

Everyone loves ribs, but not everyone has a fancy smoker for them. Weve got a solution: the grill.

There are plenty of meats that you can cook at a high temperature and have them done quickly, but not ribs. They are best done low and slow. To get started, heat your grill to 275 degrees, using a combination of charcoal and hickory wood. Knowing and maintaining the temperature of your grill is crucial during this process.

Youll want to let your ribs grill at 275 for four to five hours. Ideally, the internal temperature of the ribs should be between 190 and 200 degrees when youre finished. If you don’t already have a meat thermometer, go ahead and invest in one. You can find one for under $20.

Perfectly cooked ribs will pull apart easily, but be careful, overcooked ribs will become mushy. If you have leftover ribs, the best, most efficient way to reheat them is in the oven. Simply place the leftover ribs on a sheet pan, pour a small amount of water in the panjust enough to cover the bottomcover that pan with foil to trap in the moisture, put the pan in a 350-degree oven, and just like that, they’re done in about 25 minutes.

Can I Smoke Ribs On A Gas Grill

Most certainly. I wont go so far as to say youll get stick burner type smoke, but you can definitely impart some great smoke flavor by using some inexpensive accessories.

Wood Chips: These work great in either a smoking tube or a homemade aluminum foil packet. To dispel a myth about wood chips, dont soak them in water. Water doesnt make them smolder or smoke any longer. They just sort of steam for a bit to burn off the water before they start smoking. To make a foil packet, just pull off a sheet of aluminum foil about 24 inches long. Then, fold it in half, put about 1 cup of pellets or wood chips on the foil and fold up the edges to create a packet of wood or pellets. Then, poke several holes in the top of it for the smoke to escape.

Pellets: Pellet grills are gaining a ton of popularity these days and some of those pellets provide some great flavor. They can be used on a gas grill in the homemade aluminum foil envelope or an inexpensive smoking tube.

Whether youre using wood chips or pellets, an aluminum foil packet, or a smoker tube / box, all you need to do is place it over an active burner.

Within a few minutes the pellets or wood chips will start to smoke, and that beautiful smell will fill the air and start to flavor your food.

How Do You Pre Cook Pork Ribs Before Grilling

There are a few different ways that you can pre cook pork ribs before grilling. One way is to boil them for a few minutes. Another way is to bake them in the oven for a bit. You can also slow cook them in a crock pot. Whichever method you choose, make sure that the pork ribs are cooked through before putting them on the grill.

The day before, slow braise the ribs in the oven, then grill and glaze them to make them sticky perfection. Raising the ribs allows them to be tender but fall off the bone. To mop up leftover ribs after reheating and charring them, combine 1/2 cup of this pork stock and your favorite BBQ sauce. Because they are so much meatier, it is appropriate to use St. Louis style side ribs in this recipe. However, baby back ribs can be used as well, just make sure the oven time is set to the appropriate temperature. It is critical to season these ribs with a dry rub. A half rack is easier to handle, and the process of turning them several times during the glaze procedure necessitates multiple turns.

How to slow braise ribs in the oven the day before and grill and glaze them the next day will show you how to do it correctly.
