The Best Thick Pork Chops To Grill Thick Pork Chops On Gas Grill
Grilling thick-cut pork chops can be a delicious meal, particularly on a warm summer day. This is a great recipe for those who love to grill your meat. Follow these simple steps to get the best-grilled pork chops every time.
The first step is selecting the perfect cut of meat. Pork chops come in many shapes and thicknesses, but this recipe calls for a thick-cut pork chop that will retain its juices better while cooking on the grill. It is important to remember that thicker cuts of meat take longer to cook than thinner cuts of meat. Make sure you measure your thickness before picking up a piece from the butcher or grocery store.
Next, brush olive oil on both sides of your thick-cut pork chops and sprinkle with salt and pepper if desired before grilling them over medium heat until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Once cooked through, let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing into them with a sharp knife to ensure they stay juicy and tender as they cool off slightly.
Finally, serve with fresh vegetables, mashed potatoes, or any other side dish your heart desires!
How To Prepare Pork Chops
Just like when preparing steaks for the grill, pork chops are easy to prepare. There are two ways I recommend preparing your pork chops for the grill. The first way is with a dry rub or seasoning. This BBQ Rub is excellent and pairs perfectly with pork adding a delicious, smokey flavor. After coating one side of the pork chop, gently press the seasoning into the pork with your fingers or palm, dont rub it in. Rubbing seasonings into any cut of meat tends to make for an uneven coating, making each bite inconsistent in flavor.
The other way is by marinading. Marinading is a great method for cheaper, thinner cuts of meats which pork chops tend to be. Try this All-Purpose Marinade when your looking for added flavor and tenderness. To do this, first place the pork chops in a Ziploc bag and pour the marinade over them. Next, let as much air out of the bag as possible to allow the marinade to coat the pork evenly. Finally, allow them to marinate between 30 minutes and 3 hours.

Is It Better To Grill With The Lid Open
It is more effective to cook with the grill open because you will achieve a crispy, flawless Maillard reaction caramelization on the outside of the meat without overcooking it in the middle. As a result, they will be able to withstand the heat chamber created by the lid, and in fact, the lid will aid in the uniform cooking of thicker portions of meat or vegetables.

Dont overcook it. Pork doesnt have to be as well done as you might think.
According to the National Pork Board, go for medium-rare, not medium or even well done. If youre checking with an instant read thermometer, that means 145-150°F. If youre checking by touch, that means a chop thats 1 and 1/4 inches thick should feel barely firm to the touch and definitely not rigid. So, use this if you want to roast pork or pork loin, too.
On my grill, that means 5 to 6 minutes per side, but use a thermometer or the touch method and calibrate the cooking time to your grill.
How Long To Grill Pork Chops
Youll want to grill the pork chops on a gas grill preheated to medium heat. Grill for 6 to 8 minutes on one side, flip over, then grill for another 6 to 8 minutes. That makes the total grilling time for pork chops about 12 to 16 minutes.
Youll know the pork chops are done when they reach an internal temperature of 145ºF.
I like to take my pork chops off the grill when they reach 140ºF the carryover heat from the grill will finish cooking them as they rest on your counter.

Whats The Correct Grilling Temp For Pork Chops
No one likes dry pork chops and how to prevent them from drying out is to use a medium-hot grill rather than a grill on high heat.
Its tempting to turn that dial all the way up but dont. A more medium flame allows the pork to fully cook through before it burns on the outside which is what can happen if you use a screaming hot grill.
Lower and slower is better than hot and fast to keep your grilled pork chops nice and moist.

Best Ever Marinated Grilled Pork Chops Recipe
Pork chops on the grill reminds me of my childhood because my dad loved grilled pork chops.
And since outdoor grilling means that I dont heat up my house, its fast, easy, and theres less cleanup, I grill during the summer, or actually whenever possible.
But the number one reason for grilling is that, for me, the flavor is unbeatable!
These gas grilled pork chops marinate for one hour in a simple yet flavor-packed homemade marinade consisting of olive oil, soy sauce, Worcestershire, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and a variety of spices including thyme, smoked paprika which lends the rich orange hue, onion powder, and garlic.
Everything works so well together and best park is you just add all the marinade ingredients to a large ziptop bag along with the pork chops, seal, and squish everything around. Doesnt get any easier!
The marinated pork chops are juicy and tender have just enough savory flavor without overwhelming the natural pork flavor. Plus theres an inherent smokiness youll always get from grilling which my family adores.

Selecting Your Pork Chops
First things first, you need to get yourself some quality pork chops to work with. When selecting your pork chops at the store, there are some things you should keep in mind. Make sure your pork chops are pinkish-red in color. Any cut of meat that is pale in color or has liquid in the pack in a big no-no. Small flecks of fat are a good sign as this adds flavor to the meat. However, the fat of the meat should be creamy white in color and have no dark spots. Additionally, avoid pork that has dark-colored bone.
Now on to the matter of getting the best possible cuts. What most people dont realize is that theres more than one type of pork chop. What you will most commonly see at the butchers are the rib chop and loin chop – but there are others too! Depending on what you would like to achieve in your barbecue, you can choose from the following types:
A few takeaways from the above is that different types of pork chop have varying amounts of flavor and tenderness. Some parts are also more prone to overcooking – so best to be more careful with these. As a final note on shopping for the best pork chops, make sure to get them at 1 to 1 ½ inches thick since these have a reduced chance of drying out compared to those less than 1 inch thick.
