INGREDIENTS

  • 1 rack Baby Back Ribs
  • 2 Tbsp Prepared Yellow Mustard
  • 4 Tbsp. Dry Rub
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce, divided
  • 1/2 c. All Natural Apple Juice, divided

Dry Rub Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Remove the membrane on the bone side of your rack of ribs. Do not skip this step!

Start by running a small paring knife under the membrane at the thinner side of the ribs. Pull the membrane up until you can pull it with your fingers.

Use a paper towel and pull the membrane towards the other end of the ribs until it pulls completely off. You may need to repeat the process if it doesnt come off in one section.

Discard the membrane. Then pat the ribs dry with paper towels and place the rack on a large rimmed baking sheet.

Spread the prepared yellow mustard on both side of the ribs until they are completely covered. Set aside.

Mix the dry rub ingredients together until well incorporated. Sprinkle the rub on both sides of ribs, completely covering the entire rack.

The ribs are placed on the indirect heat source of the smoker. Cook for 3 hours.

Lightly pat the dry rub onto the surface of the ribs so that it adheres. Loosely cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours or up to overnight.

How To Grill Ribs On Indirect Heat

The final cooking method is to simply tenderize your ribs over the grates of your grill by cooking them for several hours over indirect heat. Heres how.

  • Preheat a grill to medium high and prepare for indirect grilling: For a gas grill, turn off one or two of the center burners and reduce the remaining burners to medium low. On a charcoal grill, bank the coals to the sides, leaving the center open set up a drip pan to avoid flare-ups.
  • Oil the grill grates.
  • Place the ribs bone-side down, on the cooler part of the grill .
  • Cover and cook, rotating the ribs once, until the meat is tender and pulls away from the bones, about 2 hours.
  • How Long Does It Take To Smoke Beef Short Ribs

As a general rule of thumb, you should allow 6-8 hours to smoke a large rack of beef short ribs.

I wish I could give you a more accurate time estimate, but the cooking time will vary based on the thickness of the meat, the number of ribs in the rack, and the temperature you decide to smoke at.

If you are pressed for time feel free to smoke a little hotter, around 275-300°F.

Dont forget to include the time it takes to prep and heat your smoker, and an hour to rest the ribs.

So from start to eating, allow a solid 8-9 hours. This is why I like to always have more time than I think I will need because if the food is finished early I can always leave it in faux cambro for longer.

Should You Cook Ribs Before Grilling

Another option to preparing your grilled ribs is to bake them in the oven or slow cooker and simply finish them up on the grill. This ensures that the ribs are tender but also have that great smokey char that the grill gives off.

Ive found that with this grilled ribs recipe, the ribs come out tender every time even if cooked on the grill from raw. I love the flavor that cooking the ribs on the grill for the full hour gives, but thats just a personal opinion. Really, either method works great for delicious bbq ribs!

Do You Wrap Ribs In Foil When Grilling

    Tangy Grilled Back Ribs

You should wrap your ribs in foil for the last 30-40 minutes of cooking. I like to slather mine with BBQ sauce and then wrap them. You should also cover the ends of the ribs with foil if they start to get well-done during the cooking process.

Covering them after they have been on the grill for a few hours will then help to lock in that moisture and savory grill flavor while the ribs finish cooking.

How Long Should You Cook Beef Ribs On The Grill

As mentioned, beef ribs require a long time on the grill to thoroughly cook through and still be tender, juicy, and flavorful.

The ribs can take up to 1½-2 hours until they are fully tender. It will depend on the heat of your grill. Remember, slow and consistent works best.

With the beef ribs cooking for such a long time, it is necessary to continue basting it through the process.

Beef ribs are most delicious when they have sauce left on them.

Do not use sharp utensils that may pierce the pork when flipping, as piercing allows flavor-filled juices to escape. Use spatulas or tongs for turning.

Place pork in a large pot and cover with water. Add onion, garlic, pepper, salt and vinegar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Cook until very tender, about 35-45 minutes. How To Make Bbq Ribs

Step 1: Set up your grill for two zone cooking and using a reliable leave-in thermometer, maintain a cooker temperature of 255° F.

Step 2: Trim spare ribs to clean up any edges and remove any hanging pieces of meat. Try to get them into a uniform shape. Youll often notice a somewhat loose piece of meat on the back of the ribs. Trim that off.

Remove the membrane on the back of the ribs. Simply grab a corner of the membrane with a paper towel and peel it off.

Depending on where the ribs were fabricated, they will require a different amount of trimming. Save any edible meat and fat that you trim off, theyre a great addition to BBQ baked beans.

Step 3: Place the BBQ rub in a shaker bottle. Season ribs starting with the bone side, then flip them and do the meat side.

Step 4: Place one hickory and one applewood chunk onto hot coals, then place your ribs over indirect heat and allow them to take a smoke bath for 2 to 2.5 hours.

Note: Depending on the cooker you use, you may need to spritz with water or apple juice every hour to keep the ribs moist. This isnt required in the Shokunin Kamado as its an incredibly tight grill. Take a look at your ribs every hour and if they look dry, just give them a quick spritz to keep them moist.

Wrap the foil tightly around the ribs and mark with a Sharpie® so you know which rack has which sauce. Return to the grill for 1 hour.

How To Tell That Your Beef Ribs Are Done

It takes long for beef ribs to be tender. One of the signs of tenderness is that the bone begins to fall off. You will know that the rib is done when the internal temperature reaches 200°F. You can cook them a bit longer for them to be completely done.

If you dont have a thermometer to measure the internal temperature, you can gently lift the rib bone. If the rib falls off, the beef is done. If you want to try this, ensure that you use a kitchen towel to prevent Another option is to use your thong to twist the center rib the ribs are ready if it falls out easily.

You can also cut into the meat to see if it is done. If there is no pink, the meat is done completely. Lastly, you can use a toothpick to check. The meat is done by inserting a toothpick into the flesh and removing it easily.

    Adams Tip: Remove The Membrane

For the most tender ribs, we remove the thin membrane covering the rack. It can be a bit tough when cooked, and since we love ribs that fall of the bone, the membrane has to go. You might find that the butcher has already removed this, but just in case, heres how to do it yourself.

To remove it, gently slide a knife under the membrane, and then use your fingers to pull the membrane away from the bones. If it is slippery or difficult to remove, use a kitchen towel to take hold of it and pull.

As I mentioned above, you may find that the butcher or shop you bought your ribs from has already removed the membrane. Less work for you!

Also, keep in mind that removing the membrane is optional, some people prefer ribs with the membrane left intact. For ribs with some bite or chewiness, leave the membrane alone. Its all up to you!

How To Make Grilled Ribs Recipe

To make the best Beef Ribs, I recommend slow cooking at a low temperature. This will help soften the connective tissue that binds the muscle fibers in the meat, which will, in turn, help the meat to fall apart more easily.

Follow these easy steps to make perfect BBQ Beef ribs.

    • Peel the membrane and trim any excess fat: Place the ribs on a wide tray or a wooden slab, pull off the membrane, and remove any excess fat. If using short ribs, you can leave out the membrane. Pulling off the membrane will help the meat fall apart easily.
    • Mix the dry rub seasoning. Mix all the rub ingredients in a small bowl. Season the ribs generously with the rub mix by pressing the rub firmly onto the ribs. Cover up with foil while you prepare the barbeque sauce.
    • Prepare your BBQ Sauce. Mix all the barbeque sauce ingredients and brush generously over the front and back of the ribs. Leave to marinate for at least 3 hours in the refrigerator. The time can be shorter but 3 hours is good if you have the time.
    • Grill or Bake the BBQ Beef Ribs.
    • Serve warm. Yummy!!
    • Start by preheating your grill at 250°F.
    • Place the meatier side of the ribs down on the grill over indirect heat.
    • Cook for about 2 hours, turning every 20 minutes.
    • Baste with barbecue sauce in the last 10-20 minutes.
    • Serve it warm and enjoy.
